This Monument marks the original site of the Union of Christmas Island Workers which was formed on 21/03/75
Significant and major achievements by this trade union include the following
-Elimination of Colonialism
-Elimination of Racism
-Wage parity with mainland Australia
-Migration Act PR status for Christmas Island
-Reopening of the phosphate mine in 1990
-Fair Housing Allocation
The building was burnt down on 17/09/91. The cause of the fire is unknown.
