A plaque and small memorial made from part of an old dog sled containing the ashes of ‘Misty’ is mounted on the wall in the Dog Room at Mawson. The Dog Room houses memorabilia relating to the dogs used at Mawson Station over the years. It includes photographs, a full-size sled and maps depicting the routes used by the dogs and their handlers.
Misty was born at Mawson and as a puppy was brought back to Australia on the Aurora Australis in November 1992. Misty’s career pulling sledges continued at the Voyageur Outward Bound School at Ely, Minnesota, near the Canadian Border. Misty retired in 2003 and lived out her days in Indianapolis until 2007. She was the last Mawson Husky,
