Crew of Avro Anson AW 678 Print Page 
The plaque commemorates the airmen who were killed when an Avro Anson crashed near Reedy Creek during a World War Two training mission.
On August 11, 1942 at 2.30pm, Avro Anson AW678 of 2 Air Observer School based in Mount Gambier, was on a routine training mission in the Reedy Creek area when it crashed due to reasons unknown.
The aircraft was totally wrecked and immediately caught fire. The five airmen on board the aircraft were killed in the tragedy, which was the third to occur involving an aircraft from 2 Air Observer School.
