The marble plaque commemorates the servicemen from the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) who died in service or were killed in action during the Malayan Campaign in World War Two.
A stone from the Changi Prisoner of War camp was placed in the chapel in 1949.
The Malayan Campaign was a campaign fought by Allied and Japanese forces in Malaya, from 8 December 1941 to 31 January 1942 during World War Two. The campaign was dominated by land battles between British Commonwealth army units, and the Imperial Japanese Army.
The Archbishop of Sydney, Dr. H. W. K. Mowll, unveiled a memorial stone from Changi prison camp, Singapore, at a special service at St. Andrew's Cathedral yesterday. The senior chaplain in Malaya, the Rev. M. K. Jones, brought the stone, originally erected in the camp chapel, to Australia, at the end of the war. Mr. Jones presented the stone to the cathedral and it has been set in the wall. An English padre, the Rev. W. M. Masters, preached at the service. Mr. Jones read the lesson.
