The plaque commemorates the Western Australian soldiers of the 2nd / 48th Infantry Battalion who died in service or were killed in action and all who served in the battalion during World War Two.

The Battalion was Australia’s highest decorated unit of the World War Two, awarded four Victoria Crosses (three of them posthumously) and more than 80 other decorations.
