All Australian Navy personnel serving on Defensively Equipped [ Armed ] Merchant Ship [ DEMS ] and Armed Merchant Cruisers [ Auxiliary Cruisers ]. 

HMAS Matafele left Townsville on 18 June 1944 with 24 RAN and 13 native crew bound for Milne Bay. It is believed she was torpedoed and sunk somewhere en-route – she was never heard from again.

HMAS Warrnambool [I], a Minesweeper, though not a war victim was sunk at Cockburn Reef [ off Cape Melville ] in 1947 while clearing a minefield laid by HMAS Bungaree in 1943. There were 33 RAN casualties.
