154 FROM THE 2/12 BATTALION WHO GAVE THEIR
LIVES DURING THE BATTLES OF THE BEACH
HEADS IN 1942-43, AT GONA, BUNA AND SANANANDA.
THESE BATTLES WERE ARGUABLY THE FINEST
FEAT OF AUSTRALIAN ARMS IN WORLD WAR 11,
WHERE ALMOST 100% OF THE JAPANESE ARMY
WERE DESTROYED AND THEIR VITAL BASE
CAPTURED. THESE BATTLES RESULTED IN
THE THREAT OF INVASION OF AUSTRALIA
ERECTED BY 2/12 AUST INF. BN. ASSOC, VETERAN
AFFAIRS AND THE ATHERTON SHIRE COUNCIL.
