DC3 Aircraft CrashPrint Page 
The wreckage of the aeroplane commemorates those who were killed in the crash of VH-CXD in 1945.
Aeroplanes on loan from the United States Air Force to Australian National Airlines were flown by Australian civilian pilots as a courier service to New Guinea and the Philippines. Only two such aeroplanes came to grief; one in the Philippines late in the war, and this one on 5 May 1945 on approach to Higginsfield (an air base established for the War) where it was to change crews before proceeding to New Guinea.

A DC-3 aircraft VH-CXD departed Archerfield Brisbane at 2039 hours on 4 - 5 - 45 enroute to New Guinea.
The aircraft crashed at this site at 0518 hours on 5 - 5 - 45.
This memorial is erected in memory of those on board who died in the crash.
