The gates were erected to commemorate those from the District who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two.

The gates have now been replaced by a large steel plate.

Members of the Clare sub-branch of the RSL paraded before the new memorial gates at the Clare oval on April 22 and saw the Minister of Education (Mr. Rudall) unveil tablets bearing the names of the district's servicemen who lost their lives in World War Two. Mr. Rudall was introduced by the Mayor of Clare (Mr. J. R. Michael) and a service was conducted by Rev. J. C. Bond.
