The plaque commemorates those who served in World War Two and lists the names of those from the District who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two.

The original hospital was built in 1957 as a War Memorial Hospital. The building was badly damaged in the floods of 2012, and the replacement hospital no longer has the word 'Memorial' in its title.
