The current Maffra Library building was originally erected as the Soldiers Memorial Hall to commemorate the peace and those from the district who died in service or were killed in action during World War One. The foundation stone and memorial stone were laid on the 31st August 1922.

J. W. MacLachlan, M.L.A.,
            August 1922.
