The tree commemorates the centenary of the planting of the former Shire of Creswick Avenue of Honour, and honours the horses which served in World War One.

The avenue was originally planted on the 10th August 1918 in memory of those from the Shire of Creswick who served in World War One.

Note: The Avenue is now know as the Kingston Avenue of Honour which was formerly the centre of the Shire of Creswick. It is now part of the Hepburn Shire.
