Funding for the sculpture was received through the Anzac Centenary Grants Program.

This statue us dedicated to those veterans of Rutherglen and surrounding districts who paid the supreme sacrifice during the Great War 1914 - 1918 and was unveiled in Saturday 18th February 2017 by the Hon Dr Brendan Nelson A.O, Director of the Australian War Memorial, to coincide with both the Centenary of ANZAC commemorations and 100 yeras of service to the local community by the dedicated members of the Rutherglen RSL Sub Branch (1917 - 2017)
