The brush box tree (Lophostemon confertus) planted in 1922 commemorates those from the district who died in service or were killed in action during World War One. The tree was replanted in 1927 by Mr. W. Caffery J.P.

An identical sign has been placed on a tree in Numbaa however the Trove information states that the tree was planted in Pyree opposite the Literary Institute on a triangle of land.
