Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
HS 817 Royal Australian Navy Memorial Print Page
The monument commemorates members of the 817 Squadron who have died since the Squadron's adoption by the town of Goolwa. The memorial features a mural depicting a Sea King helicopter, squadron crest and motto and the title.
The Squadron farewelled its adopted home town of Goolwa, South Australia, in the last week of February 2011 conducting school visits, flying displays, a freedom of entry parade on 26 February and a re-dedication of the 817 Squadron memorial at the Goolwa RSL sub-branch, honouring those who have lost their lives while serving with the Squadron.
