The monument was originally erected to commemorate those from the District who served in World War One.

Additional plaques commemorating those who served in World War Two and later conflicts were added at a later date. 

Today will be a big day in Coolamon where the unveiling of the district memorial to soldiers will take place. The ceremony is to be performed by Brigadier-General C. F. Cox., C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O.
