The monument commemorates Australian service personnel of Chinese descent who have served in the armed services in various conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

The Sunnybank RSL club is the first Australian branch to dedicate a war memorial to Australian servicemen of Chinese descent. This special recognition is both a reminder and a tribute to those who have served in the Army since 1899. Many in the past have been prevented from entering the war effort due to various laws and policies, which have now been overturned in an effort to strengthen cultural ties.
