Wandoan Memorial Grounds 
History
Following the Second World War the residents of Wandoan decided to establish a lasting recognition of those who served their country.

On 16-6-1945 the foundation meeting of the Wandoan Sub Branch of the RSSAILA (later RSL) was held.

The meeting was sponsored by Taroom Sub Branch represented by WM Kearnan, TJ Carroll & TC Ryan

The Wandoan RSL were appointed as Trustees of the Memorial Grounds

11-6-1949 the RSL nominated R O`Sullivan to consult with the Taroom Shire Council to complete clearing of the grounds leading to the formation of The Diggers Race Club. 

1-8-1950 RSL named the development The Wandoan Memorial Grounds 
and commissioned the Memorial Gates and Arch to be erected.

During the Second World War the Wandoan District Community established a comfort fund to supply gifts and services to the serving troops. This movement was Australia wide. 

The formation of a local Sub Branch of the RSSAILA gave rise to a local Women`s Auxiliary which was officially recognised on the 13-10-1945, many of the comfort club members joined the Women's Auxiliary. On 6-5-1952 they voted to provide the Archway for the Memorial Grounds.

The Gates & Archway are listed as official War Memorial.
