The monument, which includes a Digger statue, was originally erected to commemorate those from the district who enlisted in World War One. A marble tablet was added at a later date listing the names of the fallen of World War Two.

Additional plaques have been added to the memorial to commemorate later conflicts and the Boer War.

The memorial was unveiled by Colonel D. E. Reid, D.S.O., in 1922.
