The ANZAC Park Memorial Gates were unveiled by the Governor-General Lord Forster in 1922. The gates were erected at the entrance to an Honour Avenue to commemorate the Southport soldiers who died in service or were killed in action during World War One. Additional trees were planted and a plaque was erected at a later date to commemorate the fallen of World War Two.

At the opening of the gates Lord Forster said "Let these gates be held in high honour to the memory of those brave men who went to fight for King and country. In memory of those who laid down their lives I declare these gates open. "
The Brisbane Courier, 1st September 1922

The redevelopment of the Southport Broadwater Parklands in 2010 necessitated the removal and relocation of the existing ANZAC Park Gates within the upgraded park.
