The monument, which includes a 'Digger' statue, was originally erected to commemorate those who served in World War One. Plaques were added at a later date to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two and the Vietnam War.

It was unveiled by the Premier of Queensland, Mr Theodore on a visit to Ravenshoe in May 1922. The monument contains 28 names, 8 of whom were either killed in battle or died on active service.
