The monument was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World Wars One and Two.

A plaque was added at a later date to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in Korea, Malaya, Borneo and Vietnam.

The metal arch over the memorial commorates World Wars One and Two and campaigns are listed on the sides of the arch.
