The memorial was originally erected and dedicated on the 18th April 1958 in honour of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the defence of our country. The Memorial was dedicated with a large contingent of troops training on Koumala Range taking part. A brass plaque was added to the memorial in 2006. The Sarina RSL for the 2010 Anzac Day commemorations arranged for 8 Brass plaques to be attached to the memorial in honour of 8 men from Koumala who lost their lives in World War 2.

Trees have recently been planted by the school children with each tree representing the fallen from the district.
