The monument commemorates those from Canungra and District who served in World War One and World War Two. It was originally erected to commemorate those who served in World War One. The names of those who served in World War Two were added on ANZAC Day 1954.

The Canungra War Memorial Committee has been advised that the Tamborine Shire Council is prepared to pay the cost of maintaining the light on the monument which will be erected in the centre of Canungra Park. The Canungra War Memorial was unveiled by Mr. A.G. Muller M.L.A. on Anzac Day 1938.
