The monument was originally erected by the citizens of Burnett Heads to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

It has been refurbished and now contains a World War One Honour Roll, as well as plaques detailing the history of the memorial and the Battle of Pozieres. The monument was re-dedicated on the 23 July 2016. The restoration was a Centenary of ANZAC project.
