The monument commemorates those who served in the 12th Infantry Battalion during World War One and the 2nd / 12th Infantry Battalion during World War Two. It marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of the 2nd / 12th Battlion and the 75th anniversary of the formation of the 1st 12th Infantry Battalion.

This monument was erected by the 12th Battalion Association to mark the 50th anniversary of the formation of the 2/12 Aust Infantry Battalion A I F

Also the 75th snniversary of the formation of the 1st 12th Aust. Infantry Battalion A I F 

And as a memorial to the men who served within their ranks

Unveiled by His Excellency General Sir Phillip Bennett A. C., K. B. E., D. S. O. Governor of Tasmania on Sunday, 5th November 1989.
