The monument commemorates those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One and World War Two. It was originally erected to commemorate those from World War One.

The Mullewa ANZAC War Memorial, erected by the residents of the district, was unveiled by Captain Gee V.C., M.C, on ANZAC Day 1924. Captain Gee was an ex-member of the Imperial Parliament and a successful settler on the Mendel Estate. On the day of the unveiling, Captain Gee also formed the Mullewa sub-branch of the Returned Soldiers League.
