The Cross of Sacrifice War Memorial commemorates Australian servicemen and women who have served in conflicts in which Australia has been involved. The monument is a white marble cross on a stepped base and was originally erected in memory of the fallen of World War One.  Approximately 600 men enlisted in World War One out of a district population of about 3,000.

The main feature of the Renmark golden jubilee celebrations, which were continued yesterday, was the unveiling of a new marble Cross of Sacrifice Mr. Hawker, M.H.R. This beautiful memorial stands in the gardens opposite the Soldiers' Memorial Hall, and is a tribute to those who fell in the Great War.
