The Mitcham Garden of Remembrance was established by the Mitcham Council to honour the servicemen and women of both World Wars.

The arches which are situated at the entrance at Belair Road and Angus Road were contributed by the Mitcham Branch of the Returned Sailors Soldiers and Airmen's Imperial League of Australia. (R.S.S.A.I.L.A.). It was not until 1956 that Alderman J. O. Whicker officially opened the gardens and arches as a memorial.
