Barmera Memorial Gates
Barmera Memorial Gates

Photographs supplied by Roger Johnson

The gates were originally erected to commemorate the 18 soldiers who died in service or were killed in action during World War Two. Additional plaques were added to the gates to commemorate Post World War Two conflicts.

The Barmera War Memorial gates which are in course of construction, at the Barwell Avenue entrance to the oval, will be opened on October 31. The gates consist of four pillars, the two main ones each bearing a granite tablet with the names of 18 men from the district who died in World War II. The State president of the RSL (Mr. T. C. Eastick) has been invited to unveil the memorial tablets and open the gates and Padre (Mr. E. N. Broomhead) to conduct the dedication.
