The War Memorial Clock Tower was originally erected to commemorate the men of the Shire who served in World War One. The tower now contains plaques dedicated to those who died in service or were killed in action in the South African (Boer) War and Gallipoli and France. Honour rolls of enlistments for World War One and World War Two have also been placed on the memorial.

Mr. Harold C. Trigg, A.R.V.I.A. in conjunction with Mr. Douglas McCalman, has just accepted the tender of Mr. Charles Peeler, contractor of Sandringham, for the erection of a unique war memorial at Woodend. The structure is a 60-feet high clock tower square on plan and continued from stylobate up to the clock spaces. From thence it has an octagonal drum which is surmounted with a dome. The tower will be erected in reinforced concrete and the architectural features will be on classical lines of simple and dignified character. The cost of the work including the clocks will amount to £900, and it is expected that the contract will be completed within three months.
