The War Memorial was originally erected to commemorate the citizens of the City of Richmond who died in service or were killed in action in World War One and World War Two.

Additional plaques were added to commemorate later conflicts and the centenary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli.

This memorial was erected by the Mayor, Councillors & citizens of the City of Richmond

To those citizens who so nobly made the supreme sacrifice for their country in the First & Second World Wars

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli

We remember the thousands of men and women from Richmond who bravely volunteered to serve their country throughout the terrible conflicts of World War I.

United in courage and spirit, these brave Australians came from many cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and sacrificed much for the freedom that we have today.
