The monument was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One. The names of those who served in World War Two were added at a later date, as well as a plaque commemrating the Korean War.

Piangil. - The unveiling ceremony of the newly erected soldiers` memorial took place on Sunday. - Recent showers have been beneficial to late crops.  The crops generally are looking well.  It is expected that with the increased area sown there will be a record yield for the district of wheat.
