The monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. 

It was built in 1953 by Clarence "Snowy" Miller as a gift to the citizens of Mount Beauty and the Returned Services League and to commemorate those who had served in both World Wars. An additional plaque was added to commemorate all conflicts.
