The large obelisk which commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

It was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action during World War One. Additional plaques have been added to commemorate later conflicts. 

Brigadier-General Elliott will unveil the city of Essendon memorial to fallen soldiers on ANZAC morning, at 11 o`clock. Returned soldiers, dads and the 58th Infantry Battalion will parade from the memorial hall, Holmes-road at 10.30am. Special accommodation at the ceremony will be provided for parents of deceased soldiers.
