The monument commemorates those from the District who served in World War One and World War Two. It was originally erected to commemorate those from the District who served in World War One. 

Mickleham, Thursday. A monument of Harcourt granite, raised to the memory of 19 district soldiers, was unveiled Mrs. W. H. Poole, wife of the president of the Broadmeadows Shire, assisted by Brigadier-General Brand, in the presence of a large assemblage. It is claimed to be the first memorial of the kind erected in Victoria.
