The War Memorial was erected to commemorate those who served in both World Wars and was unveiled by Sir Dallas Brooks at the opening of the Memorial Reserve in 1952. 

The Governor and Lady Brooks, attended by Lieutenant A. F. R. Weir, R.N., opened the Mount Dandenong Memorial Recreation Reserve at Kalorama on Saturday afternoon.
