The monument commemorates those who have served in the South African (Boer) War, World War One and World War Two.

It was originally erected to commemorate those who served in World War One, but plaques to other conflicts have been added.  

It was unveiled by the Honourable G. H. Wise on the 18th December 1923, who was assisted in the unveiling by Mrs Morley who lost three members of her family in World War One.
