The monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

It was erected through contributions from the Rotary Club of Dingley Village, the Dingley branch of the Bendigo Community Bank, the City of Kingston and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The primary focus of the project was to provide a memorial for the community with a commitment from the Rotary Club to conduct an annual service for the benefit of the school children of Dingley Village, of which there are three primary schools, in Dingley Village. After the memorial was dedicated it was gifted by the Rotary Club to the City of Kingston.

The sculpture of the memorial was inspired by the ANZAC Rising Sun badge.
