The monument commemorates those from Bamawm and district who died in service or were killed in action during both World Wars. The memorial was originally erected in memory of those who lost their lives in World War One with the names of the fallen of World War Two added at a later date.

On the 11th November 1995, an additional plaque was added to the memorial to commemorate those who served in Post World War Two Conflicts.  A sundial has been placed on top of the memorial.
