The monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

It was originally erected to commemorate those who served in World War One. At the time of the unveiling 29 names were listed with a further 8 names added at a later date. Additional names and plaques were added to the memorial to commemorate later conflicts. 

The monument was rededicated on the 11th November 1995 to include all those who served their country.
