The Cenotaph commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. It contains the honour rolls of those from the District who served in various conflicts.

The Cenotaph has been upgraded and two detailed and lifelike bronze statues of an infantryman and a sailor in intricate detail, specially created by Newcastle artist Julie Squires, were unveiled at the cenotaph on the 23rd April 2015.
