The grey granite obelisk was originally erected in 1921 to commemorates those from the District who died in service or were killed in action in World War One.

Honour Rolls were added in 1997 to commemorate those who served in World War One, World War Two  and Vietnam. A National Servicemen's plaque was added in 2009 to commemorate those from the town and District who served between 1951 and 1972.
