The monument commemorates those who served in World War One and World War Two.  It was originally erected to commemorate those who served in World War One, with the names of those who served in World War Two added at a later date.

A number of years ago, the monument had to be moved because the road was to be widened, but the homemade lights fell off and were never replaced.  From 2021 to 2023, the Greta Men's Shed and the Greta RSL worked to have the lights replaced.

The obelisk in memory of Greta volunteers for the front, is now almost completed, and it has been definitely decided that the State Premier, Mr. Holman, shall perform the function of unveiling it on the 24th instant. Several members of Parliament and other prominent gentlemen are expected to be present on the occasion.

Owing to the State Premier being engaged at an important conference in Melbourne, Mr. Hall, the Attorney-General. will perform the ceremony of unveiling the obelisk erected to the memory of Greta volunteers on Saturday afternoon.
