The monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. It was originally unveiled to commemorate those who served in World War One.

The monument is a Carrara marble obelisk on three steps, with a statue of a World War One Australian infantryman at the top.

The township of Ariah Park has awakened to its obligations to those who served in the great war in the way of a memorial, and they have erected a monument in the main street that would be a credit to any city. It takes the form of an Australian infantryman in marble, generously supported and well founded the total height being 18ft. The roll of honor, on marble tablets let into the main stone, contains 139 names, of whom over 25 per cent unfortunately, were killed in action—a percentage probably unequalled in the Commonwealth. The unveiling takes place on Wednesday, October 15, and the Committee has secured Chaplain Wm. McKenzie ("Fighting Mac") to perform the ceremony. A Parliamentary party will also attend, and a grand gala day has been arranged.
