"Reflections of Service"
Cenotaph commissioned by RSL Springvale Sub- Branch 2003

A Good Joss Project
Designer and Principal artist : Jenny Steiner

Glass : Jenny Steiner and Melissa Thomas
Metal fabrication : Melissa Thomas and Bill Thomas

The cenotaph stands 4m tall and is built in stainless steel with the figures of the RSL Emblem (representing each service, Navy, Army, Air Force and Women) laser cut on each side panel and inset with 6mm laminated kiln-formed glass.  The kiln-formed glass has a recurring theme of red poppies and a distant view of war graves at the bottom of each panel.  Above these, the painted images depict personnel involvement in each service.  At the top of the cenotaph on all four sides is the Southern Cross and at the bottom of each side is the corresponding service emblem.  Water cascades down all round as "streaks of tears" into an invisible pond.  At night the cenotaph is lit from within creating a remarkable translucent and ghost-like effect.

The images on the glass have been chose to encompass most conflicts and key events e.g.
