The monument commemorates those from the District who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. 

This new memorial replaces the original war memorial which was located on the median strip of the Mulligan Highway. Plaques from the old memorial were incorporated into the new memorial.

This memorial is dedictaed to the men and women of this District who answered the country`s call and particularly those who paid the supreme sacrifice

They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
