The monument commemorates Sapper Clement (Bill) Coolburra as a representative of the indigenous soldiers of North Queensland who served in World War Two.

It comprises the ‘Return to Country’ sculpted circle by Jennifer Mulcahy and an engraved monolith with a story board.

This sculpture pays homage to the contribution made by indigenous soldiers.  The circular design signifies the spiritual bond that binds us to country, family, and tradition, and references the commonalities of shared experiences during wartime and on returning to country.
