The opening of the Mendooran - Merrygoen War Memorial Club by Sir James Bissett on Friday, January 31, was a red letter day for Mendooran. Many years ago it was decided to build such a club and a strong committee, with Mr. Darcy Garling as president, was formed. Throughout the years these people laboured to raise the necessary money, and it was indeed a proud day for them on Friday to be able to hand over to R.S.L. sub-branch free of debt, these beautiful modern club rooms, which cost £5,500.
