A monument commemorates those who served in the South African (Boer) War.

The Castlemaine South African War Memorial was unveiled on the 30th May 1903 by Lieutenant-Colonel McCay MP. The memorial paid tribute to those killed in action. The band played the march "Private Tommy Atkins" as a tribute to the fallen soldiers.
